Dads say the funniest things…

While I was on my Mommy Vacation my friends were all in stitches over Big Daddy’s postings and pictures while he was holding down the fort.  If you’ve never had a Mommy vacation I highly recommend it.  It is a great way to recharge your batteries and to make sure your hubby truly understands what you go through!

Here are a few of the postings and pictures that kept me entertained while I was away!
People who like pacifiers shouldn’t throw them out of their crib!

I’m not cleaning the house by myself.  No way.  No how.

Wifey is Away. Dad and 5 kids: Fed, bathed, clothed and on the move b4 10. How do mom’s do this every day? Makes me appreciate wifey a bunch!

Villa Blanca- Dining in Beverly Hills

During my recent Mommy Vacation in California I had an opportunity to go to Villa Blanca restaurant in Beverly Hills.  One day I went for lunch with my girlfriends and another night I went for dinner with three other friends.  Each time I went, I brought friends who had never been there before.  Aren’t I good for business?
I’m joking…

The restaurant is beautiful.  Just beautiful and both times we had wonderful waiters and great service which is both refreshing and surprising at the new hot place to dine.

The food presentation was absolutely lovely for lunch.  For dinner it was so dark I couldn’t see a thing in front of me, but that was no matter because most of the cast of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills showed up!  It was a people watching extravaganza, to say the least.

A few of my friends knew some members of the cast so I had an opportunity to briefly meet:

Kyle Richards who is just gorgeous, super friendly and down to earth—-she really is a girls girl!

Camille Grammar who is not the villan she is portrayed to be on TV and prettier in person

Faye Resnick, who I found to be amazingly kind, complimentary and gracious

Lisa VanderPump-Todd who is BEAUTIFUL—I have no idea how it is possible for her to be more beautiful in person.  I am told she is the kindest person, which is exactly how she comes across on TV.  She was very gracious about taking pictures with whoever asked and via Twitter she even shared her favorite manicure spot with me.  In person, she was a little cooler than I expected, but one could never call her rude. I suspect she is always a lady.

Lisa’s husband Ken Todd was quiet and I’m told he is a guy’s guy.  Since I am a girl’s girl, I appreciate this.

Giggy was so cute and of course fashionable and yes…bald.  You gotta love Giggy.  He has the best gig as a dog, don’t you think?

Also there was: Kathy Hilton, Adrienne Maloof and her husband Paul, Mauricio (Kyle’s husband) and Dee Dee (Camille’s makeup artist and friend).

If you are in Beverly Hills I highly recommend going  for lunch.  On the night we went we had to wait almost 45 minutes for our 7:30PM dinner reservation (which I wasn’t thrilled about), but in all fairness it was Oscar weekend and it was a fun night.

Journey to Carina Skin Care

I’ve already confessed to watching the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on my iPad.  I think I enjoy watching the show because I used to live in Los Angeles, and let’s just say I was no Beverly Hills Housewife when I did.   Which is to say that I didn’t reside  in a huge mansion and shop till I dropped.  So, for the most part, it is just a fun look into the glitz and glamour side of Los Angeles—not that there isn’t always some drama brewing but it’s certainly not my focus when watching.

Which is why I was absolutely riveted when I saw the clip of Kyle and Kim getting this unusual looking facial by Carina at Carina’s Skin Care.  I knew I absolutely had to try it when I went to LA and after talking to a few friends who are in the know,  I made an appointment!

Carina’s facial studio is located about 30 minutes outside of Beverly Hills.  From the street you see absolutely no signage as she works out of a studio in the rear of her home.  It was a lot smaller than I expected, but it was charming, very clean and Carina was so sweet and has the most amazing skin.  Which is what you want to see.

Carina told me that she has been doing this type of facial (and only this type of facial) for about 15 years.  There is so much science behind her facial that I knew I was in the right place when she explained it to me.

The 70-minute treatment uses galvanic microcurrent which introduces a water-soluble solution into the dermal layer of the skin by a process called “iontophoresis”. The only way we can truly penetrate the skin and affect it’s lower layers is to draw vitamin-rich solutions into the dermal tissue by means of electricity. This microcurrent also helps firm the skin, promote new cell growth and stimulate cell production.
The galvanic treatment process has also proved extremely effective in the medical arena where it is recommended for pre and post laser and surgical procedures.

You will immediately notice exceptionally clean and rejuvenated skin after the first treatment. A combination of treatments and proper use of the recommended skincare products will give your skin the appearance of smoother and more youthful tone and texture.
Treat yourself, or someone you know, to one of Carina’s expert and unique facials. You will immediately feel and see the difference.

In addition you can receive a microdermabrassion procedure with your treatment, which will enhance the results even more.Microdermabrassion also known as the power peel is a revolutionary skin rejuvenation process. This procedure uses a painless technique where skin’s imperfections are removed without damaging its integrity. The result is smooth youthful appearance, most effective for the following conditions.
1. Improves acne scarring
2. Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
3. Exfoliates and rejuvenates
4. Minimizes white and black heads
5. Improves hyper pigmentation
6. Helps restore sun damaged skin.

Although not painful, this isn’t a relaxing facial full of facial massages.  It is very results orientated, which is fine with me. I immediately noticed a difference when I got on the bed.  Carina uses a bolster to raise your feet up.  This is to help bring the blood circulation to your face, and with that the oxygen that it carries.

Next, she prepares your face for extraction which she does using only cotton cloth and her hands.

From here on out you realize this is no facial you’ve ever had before!  It certainly doesn’t look like any facial you’ve ever had before either.

When the final mask is attached with the electric currents you do get a tiny metalic taste in your mouth followed by a tingling sensation.  Carina says that is the minerals entering the dermis and the blood rushing to the skin.    It is by no means painful or uncomfortable. It’s just different.

Afterwards my face felt amazingly clean.  As smooth as one would expect after a microdermabrasian facial but also a bit tighter…and my neck! Wow!

I didn’t want to put on makeup and I must tell you that EVERYWHERE I went that day. I was told that I was glowing.  My skin isn’t just clean, it’s different.

I gotta get back here next month some how.

A reason to throw a party: The 87th Academy Awards

I interrupt my melancholy to bring you some cute printables from Thig & Thistle for Oscar night at your house.

We aren’t going to have an Oscar party this year.  We were invited to one but unfortunately cannot attend.  I would love to have an Oscar party one year. I imagine everyone dressed up and walking the red carpet into my house.  A catered dinner, and outdoor projection TV’s set up.   Or just a few friends and pizza delivery.

Maybe one day…The 87th Academy Awards will be held on February 27th.  Go to the Official Academy Award website for more information.

Ever feel like you don’t know which way to turn?

I am in an uncomfortable place right now.  I feel like no matter what I do I cannot find a way out from my sadness, frustration, anger, resentment and overwhelming discontent.

This is not the thing that people like to read on a blog and it’s certainly not something I want to write on my blog but I feel an explanation was owed.
I have every intention of finishing the 31 days of Intentional Parenting series.  I don’t know what to say except I got overwhelmed by my life right now and I couldn’t keep up. I have every intention of finishing it (hopefully sooner rather than later) but I wanted to do the series justice and write about it honestly and passionately. I want it to be a blessing and not something I just slapped together in haste.

I am going to California this weekend. Being physically away from my problems usually helps me.  I know you cannot run from your problems, but sometimes taking a sabbatical from them is helpful.

Hold me in your prayers and don’t give up on my little blog.  I think I am closer to finding my voice and I’m hoping that is why I am struggling right now.
